Installation Guide
Follow this comprehensive guide to install Orion Gold Scalper on your MetaTrader platform. This guide covers both MT4 and MT5 installations with detailed step-by-step instructions.
Prerequisites
Before installing Orion Gold Scalper, ensure you have:
- MetaTrader 4 (Build 600 or higher) or MetaTrader 5 installed on your computer
- Downloaded the appropriate version from our download page
- A demo or live trading account with your broker
- Administrator rights (for Windows) to copy files
If you haven't downloaded the EA yet, visit our download section to get the latest version.
MetaTrader 4 Installation
Step 1: Download the EA File
Download the .ex4 file for MetaTrader 4 from our download page. The file will be named something like Orion_Gold_Scalper_v4.6_MT4.ex4.
Step 2: Open MetaTrader 4 Data Folder
- Open your MetaTrader 4 platform
- Click on File in the top menu
- Select Open Data Folder
- A Windows Explorer (or Finder on Mac) window will open showing your MT4 data directory
Step 3: Navigate to Experts Folder
In the opened folder, navigate to:
- MQL4 folder → Experts folder
The full path should look like: .../MQL4/Experts/
Step 4: Copy the EA File
- Copy the downloaded .ex4 file
- Paste it into the Experts folder
- Ensure the file is directly in the Experts folder, not in a subfolder
Step 5: Refresh MetaTrader
You have two options:
- Option A: Close and restart MetaTrader 4
- Option B: In MetaTrader, right-click on Expert Advisors in the Navigator panel and select Refresh
Step 6: Attach EA to Chart
- Open a XAU/USD (Gold) chart
- In the Navigator panel, find Expert Advisors
- Locate Orion Gold Scalper in the list
- Drag and drop it onto your gold chart
- The EA settings window will appear
Step 7: Configure Settings
Configure the EA settings according to your preferences. For recommended settings, visit our Settings Guide. Key settings include:
- Risk level
- Lot size or position sizing method
- Stop loss and take profit levels
- Trading hours
Step 8: Enable AutoTrading
- Click the AutoTrading button in the toolbar (or press F7)
- Ensure the button is highlighted/green
- Check that the EA shows a smiley face (:) in the top-right corner of the chart
MetaTrader 5 Installation
Step 1: Download the EA File
Download the .ex5 file for MetaTrader 5 from our download page. The file will be named something like Orion_Gold_Scalper_v4.6_MT5.ex5.
Step 2: Open MetaTrader 5 Data Folder
- Open your MetaTrader 5 platform
- Click on File in the top menu
- Select Open Data Folder
- A file explorer window will open
Step 3: Navigate to Experts Folder
Navigate to:
- MQL5 folder → Experts folder
Step 4-8: Follow Same Steps as MT4
The remaining steps are identical to MT4 installation. Copy the file, refresh MT5, attach to chart, configure settings, and enable AutoTrading.
Verification Steps
After installation, verify everything is working correctly:
- Check EA Status: Look for the smiley face (:) icon in the top-right corner of your chart
- Check Experts Tab: Open the Experts tab at the bottom of MT4/MT5 to see if there are any error messages

- Monitor First Trades: Watch the EA for the first few trades to ensure it's working as expected
Common Installation Issues
EA Not Appearing in Navigator
- Ensure the file is in the correct folder (MQL4/Experts or MQL5/Experts)
- Make sure you downloaded the correct file type (.ex4 for MT4, .ex5 for MT5)
- Restart MetaTrader completely
- Check that the file isn't corrupted (re-download if necessary)
EA Not Trading
- Verify AutoTrading is enabled (green button in toolbar)
- Check that you're using the correct chart (XAU/USD/Gold)
- Ensure your broker allows Expert Advisors
- Check the Experts tab for error messages
- Verify your account has sufficient balance
Permission Errors
- On Windows: Run MetaTrader as Administrator

Uninstallation
To remove Orion Gold Scalper:
- Close all charts with the EA attached
- Open the Data Folder (File → Open Data Folder)
- Navigate to MQL4/Experts (MT4) or MQL5/Experts (MT5)
- Delete the Orion Gold Scalper .ex4 or .ex5 file
- Restart MetaTrader
